Printer Types – There are hundreds of them to choose from.

Printers have become so small that many people call them portable printers. Portable printers are also known as mobile printers. Printers can be used to print on media like paper or slides and can be even used for screen-printing. Over the years the technology has become much more advanced and the prices have come down considerably because of intense competition.

Lets have a look at the type of printers that are available in the market today.

Laser Printer

The laser printer is one of the most widely used printers in the market today, especially in offices and big commercial houses. These printers are known for their fast sped of printing. A typical laser printer can easily print a hundred odd pages or even more in just one minute. The laser printers work on a technology the toner is adhered to a light sensitive drum. The printer then uses precision lasers for excellent print quality at great speeds. The costs of printing are also saved considerably. The laser printers are either color or monochrome, so you can go for any one of them.

Liquid inkjet printers

These printers work on a different technology altogether. Here the printer sprays precise amounts of ink on the paper. The spraying of ink is done with the help of an electric charge. The ink is then placed on the paper depending on the charge of the cathode and electrode between which the ink is placed on the paper. The inkjet printers have nozzles in the cartridges through which ink is sprayed on the paper.

Solid Ink printers

In this case, the print head sprays the ink on the paper. The ink is placed on a rotating drum which is also oil coated. The paper passes through the print drum and then the ink is sprayed on the paper. These types of inkjet printers are normally used in offices though they are also very common in a house. These types of printers can print on different types of papers as well as transparencies. In recent times, these printers are built in such a way that ink is consumed in a very economical manner, which saves on printing costs.

Dye-sublimation printers

In this type of printer, heat is used to transfer the ink dye from the head to the medium such as paper and transparency. These types of printers are normally used in high end printing jobs like publications. These types of printers are normally used in printing houses.
